Image of Allium schubertii [AGM]
  • AGM

  • Flowers attract bees

  • Flowers attract butterflies

  • Plant for chalk soil

  • Plant for clay soil

  • Plant for sun

  • Summer dormant

This is a very distinctive species as the flower head looks like a pale pinkish-lilac exploding firework.

Prefers a well-drained soil in full sun. Needs a sheltered site to perform at its best. Allium foliage begins to die back as the flower stems extend so are best planted amongst other perennials whose foliage can cover that of the allium.

Height: Up to 24 inches / 60cm

AGM: The RHS Award of Garden Merit. Plants awarded an AGM are:

  • excellent for ordinary use in appropriate conditions
  • available
  • of good constitution
  • essentially stable in form and colour
  • reasonably resistant to pests and diseases
