  • Plant for chalk soil

  • Plant for shade

An endearing little plant. The flowers open almost at ground level. Clusters of tiny yellow, fertile flowers surrounded by conspicuous olive green petal-like bracts appear well into spring. Flowers are followed by scalloped-edged green leaves.

Prefers a moist, fertile soil in partial shade but prefer a drier soil when dormant.

Height: 6 - 12 inches / 15 - 30cm

Spread: 6 - 12 inches / 15 - 30cm

AGM: The RHS Award of Garden Merit. Plants awarded an AGM are:

  • excellent for ordinary use in appropriate conditions
  • available
  • of good constitution
  • essentially stable in form and colour
  • reasonably resistant to pests and diseases

Lynne's notes:

This is one of the plants I always look forward to seeing in spring. It's a real curiosity but so easy to grow.
