Frequently Asked Questions

1. What do you supply?

We are an independent, family run nursery based in Essex, specialising in the propagation and growing of shade, woodland, clay soil and pollinator attracting perennial plants. We also offer a small, handpicked selection of garden accessories and collectibles.

We aim to supply all our customers with strong healthy plants. We would not send out goods that we ourselves would not be happy to receive. Due to the variety of plants that we grow, pot size may vary from 9cm pots to 2 litre pots. In all cases we aim to supply a plant big enough to be planted either directly into the ground or into a suitable container. There will be at times, variations in size between different plants as is inevitable with a living product.

2. How can I buy plants?

You can buy plants through the website for delivery or for collection from the nursery or from an event we will be attending.

Please note: If you’re unable to visit one of the events we’ll be attending then private appointments to visit the nursery are possible. Please contact us via email (contact@mooreandmooreplants.co.uk) for availability. We are also happy for gardening groups and societies to visit. Just contact us for an appointment.

3. How do I place an order?

Orders for dispatch through the postal system MUST be placed and paid for through the website. We are also happy to take orders via email but ONLY for those that are to be collected from us at the nursery or from one of the shows or fairs we attend. In these instances we will take payment for your order when it is collected. We always have card machines available to take payments. The nursery is only open by appointment so an appointment MUST be made to collect an order from the nursery.

Our website will guide you through the ordering process.  Before submitting your order to us you will be given the opportunity to review your order and amend it.  Please ensure that you have checked your order carefully before submitting it.

Please note: We are currently only accepting orders through the website at the present time.

4. What happens if I’ve ordered the wrong thing?

Mistakes happen. If you have ordered a plant that you have changed your mind about or maybe chose the wrong one please let us know within 24 hours of making the order so we can cancel it before it is sent to you or amend any mistakes. If your order has been dispatched already we will advise, as we will need to receive the plants back in the same condition they were sent before we can offer a refund. If you have ordered the wrong item and not let us know before dispatch, then you will bear the cost of the return postage. Please note that we can only accept amendments to an order within 24 hours of the order being placed. After this time your order will be in the process of being dispatched and so amendments cannot be made.

5. What is your order dispatch policy?

Your plants will be sent out in full growth or newly emerged growth if early in spring.

They will be sent without a pot (part of our sustainability policy), with excess soil shaken off. Root-balls are wrapped in wet paper towel and sealed within biodegradable cling film or corn starch bag. They are sealed in a box or boxes with additional packing materials to protect them in transit. Every plant will have its own individual label and plant passport. (See Plant Passport information section on website)

Plants need to be repotted or planted immediately on receipt.

During the growing season, it may be necessary for some plants to be cut back.  Plants with tall stems and lots of foliage may lose a great deal of water in transit and cutting back helps reduce this stress.  Cutting back will not harm your plants but will help in their establishment by promoting new root and shoot growth once planted.

We will not send plants when we consider that it is too hot or cold. We will notify you if this is the case. If specifically asked to send at these times, the purchaser must take responsibility for the plants and we ask for this in writing.

Any images/descriptions of packaging are for illustrative purposes only, the actual packaging of goods may vary as we try to recycle as much packaging material as we can.

6. When will I receive my plants?

We will do our utmost to select, package and post your order as fast as we can. Our aim is to dispatch orders on Monday (not Bank Holidays), Tuesday and Wednesday. Orders placed Wednesday afternoon - Sunday will be dispatched the following week.

Please be aware that there may be a delay in processing orders if we are away at a show. We will contact you if this will be the case.

7. Can we come and visit the nursery?

Yes, of course but by appointment only from the beginning of April until the end of September. We are proud of the way we grow our plants and welcome visitors to come and see the way we do what we do. Appointments are currently not available when we are away at events.

8. If we come and visit what facilities do you have?

The nursery is situated on a working farm. Farm machinery, tractors, trailers and grain lorries are often about and care has to be taken at all times. The ground is predominantly flat but rather uneven in places and often covered in mud so stout footwear is advisable and essential after rain. There is a toilet with basic facilities. Wheelchair users are very welcome but the toilet is not equipped for disabled visitors. Parking is available adjacent to the main growing area.

9. How can we pay for our plants?

Plants for mail order must be paid for at the time of ordering through the website. We are please to accept all major credit and debit cards including Amex. If collecting, then as well as paying by card you can also pay by cash. Sorry we no longer accept personal cheques.

10. How much do you charge for postage and packing?

Our charges for delivery are calculated based on the weight of the goods ordered. The delivery charge will be shown at the checkout, prior to you committing to the order.

We reserve the right to change postage and packing charges at any time. This will usually only occur if our carriers or packaging suppliers change theirs and we need to reflect that change.

Our post and packing charges cover England, Wales, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Anglesey.   Post and packing charges for Northern Ireland, Lowland Scotland and the Scottish Highlands may differ from those associated with the above areas so please contact us for a postage quote.

We currently DO NOT ship outside the UK.

11. What size plants do you offer for mail order?

Pot sizes of the plants will usually be either 9cm or 1 litre. Pot sizes are specified for each individual plant entry on the website and there may be more than one size available.

Some varieties may be available in larger sizes but most larger plants will only be available for collection from the nursery or from us at one of the shows or fairs we will be attending. Please contact us for availability if there is something specific you require

12. How do we know where you'll be exhibiting?

Please visit our events page, which is regularly updated. Alternatively email us and we'll send you a list of our events.

13. Do you have a plant catalogue?

Currently we don't have a paper catalogue. All the plants we offer are listed on line.

14. What if I want a plant that's sold out. When will you have more?

Please be aware that as we propagate most of our own stock (apart from varieties where PBR - Plant Breeders Rights applies) more stock may not become available until the following season and this is especially true for rarer items. We propagate our plants in small batches, some we can only produce in small numbers at certain times of year, others we can propagate throughout the growing season. Please contact us with your specific requirements and we'll be able to tell you when we'll have more for sale.

Please note: We will only have a limited range of plants available in 2023 as we try to restock after the losses of the winter.

15. How often do you update the website so I know that you’ll actually have what I’ve ordered?

Our website is usually updated daily and we may have more plants available than are currently listed, therefore if there is something specific you require, please do not hesitate to contact us as we may have it in stock but have been too busy to update the website. Stock levels can change very quickly in the height of the season and, whilst we endeavour to update the website quickly, there will inevitably be unfortunate occasions where plants ordered via the website are already out of stock. Unless you have specifically asked for substitutes the cost any unavailable plants will be refunded to you via Stripe.com.

At times throughout the growing season some varieties of plants will only be available from the nursery or from us at one of the events we will be attending. This is either due to the plant being too large or too delicate to send via mail order or due to low stock numbers.

If a product is listed as unavailable or out of stock, this means you are unable to purchase that item at the present time. It may mean we are currently out of stock but have plants which need to mature until they are a suitable size to sell which will be available at a later date in the year or it may mean we have sold out for that season and the plants will only be available the following spring. The latter applies to rarer varieties especially.

16. Will the plant I receive look like the one on the website?

All descriptions and photographs on this website are accurate in our experience, however heights and flower colouration can vary given different growing conditions. All photographs and information on the website are for purposes of guidance only. Every effort is made with the photographs we place on the website to ensure that they truly represent the plant and may include mature specimens and close-up flower details for your information. There may be slight variations in colour between the image of a product and the actual product sold due to differences in computer displays and lighting conditions.

ALL photographs used on our website have been taken by us and as such are protected under copyright.

17. Do you offer a wholesale service?

Generally we do not offer a wholesale service. As we usually propagate our plants from our own stock a lot of varieties will only be available in small numbers and this is especially true for the rarer ones.

If there is something you specifically require it is always worth contacting us as we may have the quantities you require.
