Evergreen rosettes of multi-coloured foliage give interest all year. Leaves have cream markings and pinkish-red splashes which intensify during cold spells. The upright spikes of violet-blue flowers which appear in spring are a magnet for bees.

Prefers a moisture retentive but well-drained soil in partial shade.

Height: 6 - 12 inches / 15 - 30cm

Spread: 12 - 18 inches / 30 - 45cm

Lynne's notes:

Ajuga as a species is often despised as weedy ground cover. This seems very unfair to me. I consider 'Burgundy Glow' the prettiest variety. When grown well on soil which does not dry out, it forms a stunning mat of glossy, pink tinted, green and cream foliage. The spikes of rich blue flowers which appear in spring, are really lovely and provide a pleasing contrast to the foliage plus provide an early food source for bees.
