This interesting plant, useful for shady spots or woodland planting is worth growing on three scores: its unusual creamy-white spathes (flowers); its attractively patterned (pictum=painted) leaves; scarlet fleshy berries arranged spikes. Dies back in summer to reappear in autumn.

Prefers a moist but well-drained soil in full or partial shade. Will tolerate dry shade when established. If berries are not eaten by garden birds, seedlings may be found growing around the base of the parent plant. CARE: TOXIC if ingested.

Height: 12 - 18 inches / 30 - 45cm                      

Spread: 18 - 24 inches / 45 - 60cm
