A stunning fern at maturity but is beautiful even when young. The pale apple green non-fertile fronds are large and arching with a 'leathery' texture. In the centre of the plant, stand upright, fertile fronds which become brown in colour as the spores which cover them mature.

Prefers a moist soil in full or partial shade.

Height: 24 - 36 inches / 60 - 90cm

Spread: 24 - 36 inches / 60 - 90cm

AGM: The RHS Award of Garden Merit. Plants awarded an AGM are:

  • excellent for ordinary use in appropriate conditions
  • available
  • of good constitution
  • essentially stable in form and colour
  • reasonably resistant to pests and diseases

Lynne's notes:

This fern deserves to be better known and more widely grown as it's beautiful. When mature, it becomes a wonderful specimen for the shady border but even as a small plant it's lovely. I've been growing this fern for about seven years now and would not want to be without one in the garden.
