From a semi-evergreen rostte of narrow leaves, rise stems bearing large heads of violet-blue, star-shaped flowers in early summer.
Prefers a well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Dormant by mid-summer but begins to regrow in late autumn and if mild conditions persists the rosette of new leaves remain all winter. Prefers moisture when actively growing.
