The sheets of the star-like white flowers of the Wood anemone can be seen carpeting the woodland floor in early spring before the trees burst into leaf. The flowers are often streaked with pink or purple especially on the outside and are carried on reddish-green stems. The leaves die back after mid-summer. In the garden the small wire-like rhizomes lie just below the soil surface and slowly spread to form colonies. This is an ideal edge-of-woodland plant and for planting beneath deciduous tree or shrub canopies to give an early flush of colour in the spring.
Prefers a moist but well-drained soil in partial shade. Summer dormant.
Height: 4 - 6 inches / 10 - 15cm
